Legendary ex-United manager Sir Alex Ferguson watched on from the stands at the Friends Arena and he got the chance to speak with Mourinho in the aftermath of the win.

Following the match, Mourinho told Sky Italia: ‘I joked with Sir Alex telling him I did some work for him.

‘Because now we have all the European trophies and I won the only one he missed.’

Ferguson picked up 38 trophies over the course of his 26 years in charge of the Premier League giants so Mourinho has some work to go before he gets close to the iconic Scot’s remarkable tally.
